Scaling a Global Creative Team
Project: International Pilot Program, Prague

Role: Production Art Lead, International Team Coach

Brand: Custom Ink
Role: Production Art Lead, International Team Coach
Date: 2019
Objective: Contribute to the successful launch of Custom Ink's international production art organization by mentoring an initial pilot team in Prague. Working across time zones, languages, and cultures, I helped establish shared creative standards, scalable processes, and collaborative practices that laid the foundation for future team growth.
Approach: Partnered with leadership to help establish and grow Custom Ink's initial Prague production art team by developing scalable workflows, quality standards, and onboarding resources. Through hands-on coaching, workshops, and visual documentation, I adapted training to support artists from multiple European countries with varying levels of English fluency. I also tailored workflows to accommodate localized tools, non-U.S. keyboard layouts, and regional differences while helping foster Custom Ink's collaborative culture across geographic boundaries.
Impact: The initial pilot team of five artists grew to more than three times its original size, including the development of four new leaders. By creating clear systems, accessible training, and consistent creative standards, I helped build a sustainable foundation for the team's continued growth. The experience strengthened my ability to lead across cultures, communicate complex ideas with clarity, and build inclusive creative systems that enable teams with diverse backgrounds, tools, and perspectives to succeed together.
Unlocking Creative Capacity
Project: Vector Trace Optimization
Brand: Custom Ink
Role: Creative Lead
Date: 2010
Brand: Custom Ink
Role: Creative Lead
Date: 2010
Objective: A few years into my career, I began noticing clear patterns where time, quality, and creative energy were being lost in production workflows. Manual redraws and trace cleanup slowed turnaround and created inconsistencies, limiting the team’s ability to focus on higher-value creative problem solving and scale effectively.
Approach: I led evaluation and comparison of vector tracing tools to identify solutions that could improve efficiency without compromising production standards. Using real production files, I compared output quality, cleanup time, and reliability, then synthesized findings into clear recommendations shared with senior leadership.
Impact: The selected tool was adopted into the standard workflow, improving consistency, reducing turnaround time and freeing artists to focus on more meaningful creative work. This project reflects how my leadership developed through systems thinking, cross-team communication, and advocacy rooted in real operational needs.
This experience shaped how I approach creative leadership today, focusing on clarity, sustainability, and building systems that support people at scale.
Team Engagement & Culture
Project: CLINK! Happy Hour Initiative

Brand: Custom Ink
Role: Creative Lead
Date: 2019
Objective: Strengthen employee engagement by creating a memorable brand identity for Custom Ink's internal happy hour initiative.
Approach: Partnered with stakeholders to understand the goals of the initiative, then developed the name, creative concept, and visual identity. By combining the celebratory "clink" of glasses with "ink" and the identity of Custom Ink employees, I created a memorable internal brand that could be applied consistently across event materials, promotional items, and employee communications.
Impact: Beyond the visual identity, the project supported internal culture by using brand expression to create moments of connection outside of daily production work. It demonstrated how thoughtful, on-brand design can strengthen morale, reinforce shared identity, and build community within an organization.
Project: Spring Peak Weeks Campaign
Brand: Custom Ink
Role: Creative Lead
Date: 2017
Brand: Custom Ink
Role: Creative Lead
Date: 2017
Objective: Support employee engagement during Custom Ink's busiest production season by creating a campaign that celebrated creativity, teamwork, and company culture. I developed the visual concept and illustration for Spring Peak Weeks, producing artwork used on T-shirts, handouts, and internal campaign materials. The design transformed the everyday tools of the production art team into a playful space adventure, reinforcing pride in the work while creating a shared experience for employees.
Approach: Led the creative direction for the campaign from concept through execution, developing an original illustration and visual system that transformed routine production tools into a playful space-themed narrative. By aligning creative decisions with business objectives and employee experience, I created a flexible campaign that could be implemented across apparel, print, and internal communications.
Impact: The campaign reframed a high-pressure operational period into a shared creative narrative. By celebrating the behind-the-scenes work of the teams, the illustration helped foster pride, motivation, and a sense of shared purpose during peak production.

Role: Creative Lead
Date: 2015
Objective: Support Custom Ink's culture of community involvement by developing the creative identity for CVille Gives, an employee-focused fundraising and awareness campaign benefiting local nonprofits in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Impact: The campaign delivered a consistent visual experience across print and apparel, making it easy for employees to recognize, connect with, and support the initiative. By combining thoughtful illustration with purposeful messaging, the design amplified nonprofit visibility, encouraged participation, and supported fundraising efforts. The campaign artwork helped inspire participation while reinforcing the company's commitment to service and shared purpose.
Project: Branded Communication System
Brand: Custom Ink
Role: Creative Lead
Date: 2022
Brand: Custom Ink
Role: Creative Lead
Date: 2022
Objective: Improve the clarity and consistency of Custom Ink's daily backlog communications by developing a cohesive visual system for the Art & Design and Production Art teams.
Approach: Using established brand standards, I created branded email banners that transformed routine operational updates into more engaging, recognizable, and easy-to-navigate internal communications.
Impact: More than a set of email banners, the project established a scalable visual system that improved communication consistency across the Art & Design organization. It highlighted the role of design in strengthening internal culture, reinforcing brand standards, and creating a more connected experience for the teams who relied on these communications every day.
Reflection: Every project in this section reminded me that creativity is ultimately about people. Design can improve workflows, strengthen culture, and solve complex challenges, but its greatest value is helping people feel connected, supported, and empowered to do meaningful work together. That's the perspective I bring to creative leadership today.
